patty - process part 381 (no couples)

i am really, really excited to be sharing my contribution to modyfier's fantastic process series!

the title for this one is no couples; it's an all-vinyl set that might be softer and more relaxed than any of the others i've shared. along with the mix, i wrote an essay about myself and my music pursuits. you can read that here. and as is usual for the series, rayna, the mind behind modyfier, prepared some very cool artwork. finally, that's the tracklist below.

it took me quite a while to finally put this all together, and i'm very happy with the results. modyfier has been the source of so many great mixes over the years, so it's a pleasure and an honor to be involved and contributing my own set of sounds (and thoughts). thanks to anyone who's decided to tune in... i hope you enjoy!

it's time to rejoice: smilecoldanatomy has returned to official.fm!

well, almost. as it turns out, my old page was deleted because i'm based in the US and i had a "media" account. thanks to something in my country called the digital millennum copyright act, official.fm apparently closed all US media accounts in order to avoid liability for any music that potentially, maybe, might be shared illegally. a blanket precaution, as i do not illegally share music, and one that sadly removed all prior anatomy-related material from the site.

fortunately us "media" folks are allowed to make new (regular) pages, and after working out a few kinks, it looks like all systems are GO for me to continue sharing sounds via official.fm. so for now, here's some of my own mixes - all worthy of revisiting, i hope. in the coming days and weeks i'll be re-uploading all the anatomy mixes and preparing for anatomy 20 and beyond. until then, you can check out these old mixes from yours truly, and visit the brand spanking new patty page by clicking here.

a new mix from me to you:

i'd been in the mood to record a mix using my 'new' pioneer cdj-100s, which lets me play digital stuff and promos without staring at a computer screen. about a week ago i recorded this 90-minute session, after a day of hearing sirens go off nonstop outside my window. i used two technics 1200mk2 turntables (with whitelabels) and one cdj-100s all blended with a vestax pc-175 mixer in one take. it was recorded into audacity, and i made some minor level adjustments and exported it to mp3@320.

finally! the recording of my set on RTS.fm last month is ready to share. this three-hour collection of long soundscapes and dark rhythms was realized on thursday, june 23rd with vinyl records on two technics 1200mk2 turntables (with shure whitelabel cartridges), blended with an allen & heath xone:62 mixer and fed into my friend oleg's laptop in order to stream live online from his apartment. no editing besides an attempt to boost the levels; overall it's a bit quiet, so feel free to turn it up. the set was originally supposed to be two hours, but oleg graciously let me have more time to stretch out, so i tried to go on an even deeper journey...

new mix by yours truly...i wanted to create a sensual situation that moves through dark places and into a blissful, cozy warmth... at least, i hope these emotions shine through. the set was spontaneously assembled in one take; overall it's more raw and dynamic than my previous mix (with a few rough blends), but i think there's an interesting sort of tension and depth because of it, balanced nicely with the dust and pops of the vinyl. something for bedtime, something for lovers...

i had been wanting to record a new mix for a few months, but only recently did all the pieces come together to get a good quality recording. this mix is made completely with vinyl records in one take, on two technics 1200mk2's with shure whitelabel needles and a vestax pc-175 mixer, connected to my computer via an external rca/usb interface box. audacity 1.3beta was used to capture the sounds and do some minor editing (mostly boosting the levels), before converting it to mp3@320.
